The Bible states that “God is love.” It also lists “love” as a fruit of God’s Holy Spirit. Yet, the love mentioned in the Bible is very different from the “love” promoted by this day. The meaning has completely changed over the period of time.

Nowadays, Valentine’s Day focuses on getting. The message it sends is clear: buy things for your partner, or you will not get love! And those who do not receive anything, or do not receive what they may have expected, feel unloved! However, God’s form of love is centered on giving and not to be focused on receiving.

Jesus taught, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Also, Valentine’s Day is based on pagan traditions centered around the worship of a saint whose name was Valentine and NOT the true God of the Bible! Its customs originate from the ancient history. Only much later was February 14th designated as the renamed “Christianized” Saint Valentine's Day.

God plainly commands, “Learn not the way of the heathen.” He does not want His people celebrating days rooted in paganism. The love of God is not tied to a holiday, money or vain expressions. Instead, His people are motivated to follow the perfect example of Jesus Christ.
